The Tragedy of Bitlis is one of the few English language primary accounts of the Armenian Genocide in this remote corner of the Ottoman Empire. It is another disturbing account of the systematic murder of Armenians in 1915. Originally published in 1919, The Tragedy of Bitlis is relatively unknown and deserves more attention. It should be read critically in conjunction with Clarence Ussher's An American Physician in Turkey and Rafael de Nogales' Four Years Beneath the Crescent.
